Nature is one of our favorite parts of year-round schooling. I love watching little bare feet run through the yard and waiting to see what my kids will discover next. Sometimes it is a snake or squirrel that captures their imagination. Other times it is a beautiful rock, or a new way to dam up the stream that causes their excitement to bubble over.
This week the fascination of the moment was flowers.
They picked flowers,
planted flowers,
pollinated flowers
(ran from flower to flower with q-tips “helping the bees”)
told stories about flowers,
made chains of flowers, and of course,
took pictures of flowers.
This little one ran up to me with sparkles in her eyes happily yelling “these are for you!” and then promptly tripped while trying to climb the steps. She cried while insisting that I “get some water quick!” and only after the flowers were attended to would she allow me to comfort her and bandage her scraped foot. Daisies were part of my Mom’s wedding bouquet so I have a deep attachment to them, but receiving daisies from my kids always makes them even more special.
Thanks sweetie!

The shadows on her hands are so cool! She took such gentle care of the flowers.
I love the shadows too. One of the few times that photographing at noon worked in my favor.
How sweet! She was more concerned about the daisies than about her boo boo.
Yup, that was the part that melted my heart too. You never know what to expect with kids in the house. Remember our famous miscommunication about getting dressed? I’m still scratching my head over that one.
