My hardworking husband had himself convinced that he bought this old wooden racing boat “only for the motor.”

That didn’t last long.  He can’t let a good project go to waste.  We quickly went from, “Well, maybe I’ll just give it a quick paint job and toss it into the water for the kids,” to:

Unfortunately, all of the long hours months of repairs and sanding aren’t as photogenic.

And that motor?  It is almost done too.  Summer, here we come!

Update 7/15/13:  All repaired and in the water!  Lightning Launch!

Wow, what an awesome project! The Lightning looks fantastic, and I’m sure the kids are thrilled. This is totally something I could see my scientist fiance tackling… he, too, can’t let a good project go to waste! :)

How cool and fun for the kids! Or is it for him too?! ;-)

Both. It is small enough that it needs only a tiny motor, so the kids can use it, but I have a feeling that he will be racing it around too. That or he will be in our other tiny boat racing them.

      Boys and their toys.

looks pretty snazzy from when he started. tho~ it looks moore like a speed boat than one for kids to float about in!

No, “floating about” will not be on the agenda.

Wow, good job! All that hard work will come to fruition when you take it out in the water. It has made quite a transformation from its original state.

Wow that’s great. Really did a good job on that, and looks like it will be ready for some Summer fun. :)

My brother in law, got a fixer upper boat 20 yrs ago, and he still never finished it – lol

Isn’t that always the way with projects? Either you immediately throw yourself into it, or it sits there laughing at you for years. All or nothing.

Nothing better than a boat in summer! And an especially cool one with the lightning!

So when is he going to enter it into this year’s competition for best in show?
