The beginning of each new year is a time when we often think about how we can improve, refine, and develop our goals. We make plans to improve ourselves, improve our homes, and improve our world.
I recently learned that an organization dear to my heart, the New England Center for Expository Preaching (NECEP), has been presented with an amazingly generous offer of matching funds, and I wanted to share this opportunity with you. Perhaps this is one way that you can make a difference this year.
NECEP.org gives student pastors the opportunity to preach regularly in churches. Did you know that this is a unique opportunity for most of them? In general, seminary students preach only short summaries in chapel a few times a semester. At the same time that they are serving these students, NECEP is also serving by bringing pastoral students to the spiritually dry land of New England, the least religious region of America by far. (Huffington Post, 3/27/12) As a result of their time with NECEP, a large percentage of these pastors return to take positions in New England after their graduation.
